The Battalion Nominated for Two National Awards

The College Media Association named The Battalion as one of four finalists for daily newspaper of the year. This is the third time in five years the association named the Battalion as a finalist, which it won for the 2015-16 school year.

Student newspapers from the University of Texas, Iowa State and the University of Mississippi were also named as finalists.

The Battalion is also a finalist for the Pacemaker Awards, which are given by the Associated Collegiate Press. 

There are 37 other newspapers from four-year universities nominated.. It's the first nomination for this award since 2012 and the sixth time in the Battalion's history to receive a nomination. 

 Both will be announced at the joint national CMA/ACP convention at the Grand Hyatt in Washington D.C. on Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. 

Several individual Battalion contributors earned finalist spots in the Pinnacle Awards.

Best Special Section (4 pages or more): One of their three Corps Values sections from the spring. 

Best Sports Section: Fourth year in a row to be nominated

Best Sports Feature Photo: Cassie Stricker's photo of Cullen Gillaspia after he scored the first touchdown ever by the 12th Man.
